David Livingstone Academy named as one of the top 105 performing schools in England

The STEP Academy Trust is delighted that David Livingstone Academy (DLA) has recently been named as one of the 105 top performing primary schools in England using the new similar schools measure. DLA stood out in two ways. First, the Academy was ranked number one in its table comparing schools with near identical intakes. Second, over 20 per cent more of DLA’s pupils achieved a level 4 or above in English and maths than is typical of a school with its intake.

Congratulations go to Claire Slade, her team and the children of DLA whose significant achievement has rightly been acknowledged in a letter from the Secretary of State for Schools, Rt Hon David Laws MP.

David Livingstone Academy tops Croydon KS2 SATs league table

Ofsted! This year, David Livingstone Academy has been listed as one of the best primary schools in Croydon, with 100% of its pupils achieving L4+ in English and mathematics. This tremendous achievement also places the Academy in the top 5% of schools nationally.

Through the STEP partnership, Applegarth, David Livingstone and Gonville are working incredibly hard to strengthen teaching and accelerate progress. As a result, everyone involved in The STEP Academy Trust is enormously proud of Claire Slade (Headteacher), her team and the children, for this wonderful achievement.

David Livingstone Academy graded a “good school” by Ofsted

In April 2012, David Livingstone Academy was graded a “good school” in its Section 5 Ofsted Inspection. The inspectors noted “rapid improvements” in the Academy’s ethos and pupils’ achievements since the previous inspection and that these had been driven by “inspirational leadership”. “Exceptional outcomes in art, music and sport,” were also highlighted, as was the strong impact of the Rights Respecting School initiative on the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

The report concluded that, “gains made through membership of The STEP Academy Trust, confirm the school’s strong capacity to bring about further improvement”.

The positive impact of partnership working

The STEP Academy Trust is based on the premise that working in close collaboration significantly strenghtens the individual partners. The positive impact of school-to-school partnerships on school improvement is increasingly recognised both locally and nationally.  So we were delighted that a recent article in the Croydon Advertiser recognised the impact a number of partnerships, including STEP, are having on school improvement throughout the borough.

Head Teacher appointed for David Livingstone Academy

On Friday 3rd February 2012, The STEP Academy Trust directors appointed Claire Slade (pictured right) Headteacher of David Livingstone Academy. Currently working as Head of School, she will take up the position of Headteacher in September 2012 when Mark Ducker (Headteacher of Gonville Academy) ends his tenure as Executive Headteacher.

An excellent appointment for David Livingstone Academy, the leadership arrangement now matches the Trust’s vision – that each STEP Academy is led by a strong Head Teacher.
