STEP CEO Mark Ducker receives OBE

It was announced on Friday 16th June that Mark Ducker, CEO of STEP Academy Trust, has been awarded an OBE in The Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours List, for services to education.

Mark is the inspiration behind STEP and it was his deep sense of moral purpose and vision which brought it into existence. This award recognises Mark’s unique gifts, talents and profound sense of social justice which is evident in what has been developed across STEP for all of the children.

Upon hearing the news, Mark said “I am delighted and privileged to have been awarded an OBE for services to education. It is a great personal honour. However in truth, I have been tremendously fortunate to work as part of an extraordinarily talented and committed STEP team: consisting of staff, governors, trustees, parents, but most of all, children.  It is their passionate commitment to the Trust’s mission, vision and values, which they exemplify every day, that has made this award possible.”

Wolsey Infant and Nursery School join STEP

On the 1st September, STEP Academy Trust were pleased to welcome Wolsey Infant & Nursery School as the 14th member of the STEP family.

Whilst the pupils were enjoying a well-earned summer break, the STEP Central team were hard at work to join the infant and junior school (already part of STEP) together. This work included changes to the infrastructure of the schools as well as internal layout of the schools to ensure a more pleasing learning environment.

John Halliwell, an existing member of STEP’s Senior Leadership Team and National Leader of Education, will take up the roll of Executive Headteacher, with a focus on bringing the staff and pupils of the two schools together, as part of the STEP family.

STEP Academy Trust are a vision and values led organisation, with hubs in South London and East Sussex. Their founder and CEO, Mark Ducker was awarded an OBE earlier this year, for his services to education.
